On the Cape Town City tour we will travel by cable car to the top of Table Mountain then descend and visit the Cape Malay Quarter before making our way to the Company Gardens. From the Company Gardens we stop at the Castle of Good Hope and Diamond museum and if time permits us we travel to Milnerton and photograph Table Mountain from across Table Bay.

Day 1

The Cape Town City tour will commence with a pick up from your hotel within the Cape Town City Bowl. The city tour will proceed to the former Cape Malay Quarter known to many as Bo-Kaap, a sight of colorful buildings resembling the Cape Malay culture. The community is made up of former slaves originating from the Far East (Asia). They were mostly shoe makers and tailors.

The Cape Town City tour will give you the opportunity to visit the Bo-Kaap Museum which was built in the 1970’s that will give an insight into the lives of the Cape Maly Community. The museum is a unique Cape Dutch 18th century artisan’s home housing a collection of photographs, paintings and Muslim cultural objects reflecting the history of the Bo-Kaap area.

The Cape Town City tour will continue to the Company Gardens, a park bordered on its edges and corners by attractions such as the South African Art Gallery, the Jewish Museum, the Planetarium and the Garden Restaurant. The Company Gardens was created by the first European settlers fresh produce and today the Company Gardens boasts the oldest cultivated pear tree in South Africa and rose garden dating back to the 1929. Statues of significant historical figures can be seen within in the Company Gardens as well as a place of where visitors can interact and feed the squirrels.

As the trip to the Company Gardens concludes we proceed with the Cape Town City tour pass the Saint George Cathedral, a provincial heritage site known for housing of anti-apartheid activists during the struggle for freedom and having the icon Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond as its first Black Bishop. We will pass through the green market square as we make our way to the Grand Parade, an open space used for events and also serves as an open market. The Grand Parade is famous for being the place where people assembled to listen to the iconic Nelson Mandela’s first speech when he came out of prison.

The Cape Town City tour will further continue to the oldest building in Cape Town, the Castle of Good Hope. The castle was built by the Dutch East Indian Company, also known as VOC (Verenigde Oos-Indische Compagnie) and is known to be the best preserved fort. The Castle of Good Hope is a provincial heritage site worth visiting.

We will depart from the Castle for a visit to Table Mountain to get a view of the Cape Town City Centre and the Atlantic seaboard from the top of one of Cape Town’s beloved landmark. Table Mountain is known as Hoerikwaggo (mountain of the sea) to the San people. Table Mountain is the core of Cape Town with a rich floral kingdom where you can find over 1400 species throughout the Table Mountain National Park. The mountain is also known for its wilderness, hiking routes and desirable residential areas trailing downs its slopes. The Table Mountain cableway offers visitors a ride of a lifetime, with a carrying capacity of 65 people per trip the cableway can transport up to 800 passengers up and down the mountain in an hour.

The Cape Town City tour does not stop at Table Mountain, the tour will continue to Shimansky Diamond Museum, the diamond tour will afford you the opportunity to be exposed to the history of South Africa’s most sort after treasures and this intimate diamond tour will give you an insight to how the diamonds are cut and polished. Witness first-hand how rough diamonds are transformed to the final product and see replicas of some of the world’s most famous diamonds.

What happens if the cableway is closed on the day of the Cape Town City Tour and I have already purchased my Table Mountain cableway ticket?

Your online ticket is valid for seven days from the day of your booked visit, so please use it on the next open day within that week. Tickets can also be refunded within the seven-day validity period
